Homework! how can I make students love you?

Do students prefer written homework or online homework? My students are required to learn literature according to the Education Ministry, therefore I decided to create a forum in which I post homework connected to each piece of literature.

What a better way to get them involved than show them a set of pictures and have them respond? or post a youtube video and have them answer a question? Now they can really tell their parents "I am doing my homework".

The idea of a forum is still under development and the forum is updated as we go through the texts. The idea is to incorporate pictures, videos, games and other ideas into homework. Students love the idea and I am hoping to start using it with all my classes.

This is what we have done so far:

Great experience! thank you for the link. The discussion about pictures really makes Ss think and express their opinions.

New technologies are developing day by day... Really students believe that in the future computers replace teachers but they never can show feelings of the teacher. I think online classes or homework are not too bad but we must use some classical elements at teaching

Teaching in the classroom is something that can never be replaced. Our roles as teachers are a gift to students, but the world is changing and becoming dependent on technology. If we keep insisting to distance ourselves from where the students are headed, we will find huge gaps between us and the students. This way, I keep them interested, and we can have many class discussions about the forum posts.

      Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your lovely post nahla_shaw, I don't think that we can make students love doing their homework but at least as teachers we can try to be more creative such your idea. Bringing technology into classroom and then reflecting it to their homewrok would be really fruitful. However, we need to be careful. Once they are used to technology, it would be hard for them to turn back to traditional methods such as pen and paper :)

      Keep writing,

      Hello

That’ a very “hot” topic for me right now so thank you for it.

According to my personal experience it is rather difficult for students to change the type of homework they used to. Be ready that for some time they will be telling you about problems with the Internet access and so on. But at the end of the day they got interested in out-of-class activities, and the more the Teacher is involved and committed the more interested and willing the Students are.

What is more, this type of activity suites perfectly for those who somehow missed a class or for shy students.

      Good luck,

      Nastya

      Dear Oztrozge,

You have a point there, that is why I did not eliminate doing homework using actual notebooks. This is extra to make it more interesting.

      Thanks for commenting :)

Yes some of them told me that, so I gave them extra time to actually do it. Now they know that they have no way around it, so tey do it on time.

      :)
