After meeting a lot of people and trying to find a way to start teaching English,I realised that no one knew the real starting point!
In the end I decided to just jump into the water and learn the teaching process by thrashing around! So we have started the first class, with 3 students.
The only thing I am sure of just now is that we should start with simple sentences.
So the first thing is to teach people the use of I, in simple present tense, words not exceeding four in each sentence.
The next step would be to use We in place of I. I make them write general sentences of day to day use. Writing these and reading them aloud, helps the students realise the correct pronunciations. Additionally they learn the use of the articles at the same time, without making it seem like they are learning grammar.
I hope to take them through the tenses using the same sentences.
I firmly believe that the only way to learn a language is to be able to think in it. To reach that skill level, the students have to go over the same sentences and words again and again. Frequent usage will ensure that they remember the correct spellings, usages and pronunciations.
I forgot to mention, this is my first attempt at being a teacher. So I request all the learned, epxerienced teachers out there to,extend a helping hand so that our ship doesn't lose it way!
If you find some mistakes in the typing please forgive me.
I hope somebody goes thorugh this blog and

Dear Vitekar
I hope teaching becomes a really good experience for you. And you are right about beginnings - actually even experienced teachers feel that each new student, each new group is a new and different beginning.
Please, do keep coming here and posting your experineces and I hope all the articles and materials on the website can help you with your first steps on the profession.
All the best

Dear Chirs,
thank you very much for your encouraging words. I am sorry I have not read my own blog for quite some time.
I am happy to report that class has started. We are going through everyday conversational English in simple present tense, to keep it simple.
Even though I have no previous experience of teaching, I find it really fulfilling to teach. It seems to come naturally to me, so every class is over before anyone starts to yawn or gets fidgety. I do hope they are learning !
My name is Mahesh, you can call me that and drop the Mr. because I am a down to earth person.
Glad to see your comments once again.
Thank you & wish you the best,
Mahesh
