      How to give a chance to the students

      We all know that having student centred lessons in which students can find a chance to express themselves are more helpful, but sometimes the most colourful activities and the best games you prepare can just fail in the classroom. In this situation, your students keep quiet in the speaking activities and be active in the listening parts :))

      Here are some solutions teachers prefer to help their students to participate

      * Pair work / group work

      * Open pair activities

      * Giving awards or punishments

      * Giving marks

      * Threatening softly

      * Threatening harshly

      * Praising

      Can you add anymore? What do you do to involve the students in the lesson?

      Thank you for the post and solutions!
      I also give chance to my students,it's different from yours but probably I have a little advantage.The reason is my students are future English teachers.The chance I give them is to practise their professional skills at our classes-regularly someone from the group prepares and leads a part of our lesson.it can be either a warm-up,or vocabulary exploration,or grammar section.
      They get a chance of teaching and afterwards having been in my place and coming back to their students' roles they feel different and fully involved.

      Hi Oxana,

      That sounds like a great opportunity for the students. They can overcome their fears when they start talking in front of others. Because you are teaching the candidates of teachers, they need more practical activities which you provide. Thank you for sharing.

      Dear Merveoflaz,

        Thank you for your post. To get my students to participate when teaching literature, for example, I assign one paragraph to each student and ask him/her to explain it to the class while helping them do that if needed.

      Praising is a great way to get even the weaker students to participate.

      That's another good idea nahla. Assigning specific tasks for the students can help them feel responsible. Thank you for sharing that.

      Dear Merve,

      I am glad to read your post especially your solutions are terribly appreciated. I can see that other colleagues contributed as well with their great ideas. Regarding your question, I can add one more:I always have a song with me as a Plan B in case things go in the wrong way and my students end up being silent. This is just simple but works everytime I get stuck in the lesson :)

      Keep up your good work and keep blogging,

      Best,

      I really liked your solution as well. Songs are very helpful in various ways such as classroom management, fun and motivating.

      Thank you for your comments.

      Best

      Hi, Merve

      Thanks for your "solutions teachers prefer to help their students to participate"

      I think the tips are very important, but "the level" is also important.

       We should choose the most proper ones.

       I think "praising is the most poupular isn't it?

       see you...

      As you mentioned, the level is important as well. Thank you for reminding that.
