* Inviting our learners to build Acronyms from their First Name (sharing some examples)
If we provide our learners with a varied list of adjectives (familiar words and new ones we present within a context), and invite them to create an Acronym from their First Name, they will find it very enjoyable.
They can consolidate vocabulary along with reflecting on themselves while choosing from adjectives thy think can be appropriate to their profile.
e.g.
Memorable Masterful
Amazing Impulsive
Realistic Glorious
Generous Unflagging
Amusing Explorer
Responsible Loyal (MIGUEL)
Imaginative
Dynamic
Authentic (MARGARIDA)
* All learners have illustrated their Acronym. Some of them have included prints from their choice keeping their memories alive. The output resulted in about 30 Acronyms which were exhibited at school amongst other tasks.

Dear Maria
I find your note on acronyms interesting . I have used a variety of word games such as ice breakers or warming up activites in the class . To quote a few -- forming small groups by joining bits of of a proverbs , grouping of similar items or linking closely knit items/people for pair work. But using different grammatical items to make acronmys seems an interesting way to get going . Thanks for sharing.

Dear Selva
Thanks for your visit to my blog as well as for your useful post.
More than one year on... I am replying to you. I must apologise for this so delayed feedback. Despite my very regular visits and great interest in so many issues available here, I confess I have been devoting much more attention to other sections... So sorry again ! I have just noticed your useful suggestions . Keep them coming in!
Better late than never... Happy 2011!
Cheers

Hi Maria
Just came across your lovely idea of encouraging students to personalize acronyms from their names. A great creative idea; to make ‘acronyms’ more meaningful and fun in a learning context.
Thank you for sharing this Maria, and all the best
Lauren
Hi Lauren,
Thanks for your appreciation towards a very simple idea! It can really work positively once teacher and students do engage enthusiastically, as you well know.
They were also proud of their activity when they saw it exhibited amidst other works at a school exhibition by the end of the school term.
Thank you again, Lauren, and all the best to you :)

Hi Maria
I am certain most learners will enjoy personalizing ‘acronyms’ from their names. It will also be interesting to see what vocabulary students generate. I often find that simple activities can work the best as they allow for more creativity. Seems fun too!
It’s also good to read your other generous comments.
Thank you Maria, and all the best
Lauren
