DEFINITION persuade (verb) to make someone do or believe something by giving them a good reason to do it or by talking to them and making them believe it.
Each student should be able to persuade any strangers in the university to purchase an item that they were trying to 'sell'. They were given a duration of one hour to complete the task.
As a challenge, the item would be sold at a higher price than its normal price. For instance, the students with a pen that costs RM0.80 had to sell it for RM1.00 instead. For this activity, I advised them not to sell items that are very expensive. The mission was to get strangers to agree upon buying the item from the students.
All of my students were able to convince the strangers to purchase their items and most of them were able to complete the task earlier than the estimated time.
Once the strangers have agreed to buy, the items were actually given for free as a token of appreciation for participating in the activity!
* The students were asked to reflect on the activity (before, during and after) by providing some details. On a piece of paper, they were asked to assess their own ability. The four items were as below:
1) Feelings (adjective): ____
2) Confidence level: > or <
3) Listening skill: Good/Bad
4) Speaking skill: Good/Bad
