      Teaching process writing

The other day we had a workwhop with my colleagues based on British Council materials on Process writing. I'm happy we started working on this topic. Though we've been working on improving our writing and editing skills for quite a while, I haven't been teaching writing skills as a process writing in it's poroper sense.

After the workshop I realised that I tend to skip core stages like Focusing, Drafting and Revising. I comforted myself with the thought that to explain to my students the purpose and the importance of these stages is enough. I usually confine to pre-writing stage where we brainstorm ideas in small groups. The rest is given as a home task. Even if I give a proofreading and editing task, my students end up correcting each others mistakes. After the workshop I decided to cover all stages in class in a combination of individual and pair/small group work. The outcome was very rewarding. At the reflection stage my students said that collaboration helped a lot. And the fact that they had been doing it in class, passing throughthe frame sequentially without missing out any stage added to the final result as well.I'm thinking of applying the process writing frame to teaching speaking for monologues and mini presentations. Has anybody tried to apply these stages for a speaking class? It would be very interesting to know more.
