English for Specific Purposes for the BPO

One of the real challenges in designing an ESP-based curriculum for the BPO industry is the limited time to come up with a 100% customized material. After the needs analysis, which alone takes time because of organization constraints to access authentic materials, getting content gets one into thinking for the best pedagogical approach, to a content one still has to research, and the physical conditions one has to work with, not to mention writing the series of lessons according to the format of a particular company. It is a bit frustrating. Also, there are few models from which one can partly measure one's work.

Material resources are also scarce. For my part, I have already made a request for literature and it's been a month and it hasn't even been ordered. It's an international call center company and it surely would have been easy to purchase on line. There aren't much ESP practitioner that I know of, and so conferencing from other teachers working within the same industry is hardly in existence here in the Philippines.

I wish to enter into an online community that discusses similar problems I have, especially those from India, since they have more experiences working within BPO organizations.

I would also be interested in other employment options--those that are serious enough in educating learners for ESL, with a particular cause in nation building, and of course, with good compensation. Surely not a bad combination. is it?!

      Thank you,

      John
