So, it looks like it's going to be difficult to find the time to write this every week - at least for the moment. But for now let me tell you what I've been up to this past week or so and ask for your advice.
Here at the Paris British Council Teaching Centre we are introducing Continuous Assessment to replace the previous mid-year and end-of-year tests. I gave my first INSETT session today to help teachers understand the new procedures; the whys and the hows. I have also integrated self-assessment into the Continuous Assessment in a formal way. We are already encouraging our students to reflect on their learning with review sessions built into our lessons but I wanted to make it even more explicit. I saw on Teacher's TV the way they use WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If) with learners in the UK and am convinced with a bit of tweaking we could adapt this approach to our teaching context.
My questions to you is do you use Self-Assessment with your learners? Do you use Continous Assessment? If so, how and does it work for you and your learners?

I think self-assessment is a great thing to aim for, but it can be difficult sometimes. I'm thinking about when you have a student who has a completely different idea of what level they are compared to you as the teacher! Still, much better than telling them they pass or fail depending on how well they do in a gap fill test!
