      Multicultural Approach on teaching ESL

      Hello, mates.

Once I've created this blog, I was thinking about which could be the first post. Well, I believe I've got a good motif...

I've developed with my "upper-intermediate" students a kind of activity they have enjoyed a lot I would like to share with you all. One of the biggest fears of a student is to talk in a foreign language about one theme sometimes not so well-known. Facing this difficulty some materials offer, specially to our intermediate students, I've organised with them a purpose on some workshops they could present about topics they could search a bit more and talk: Brazilian Festivals.

Imagine how productive is to have a student talking about his/her own culture using a foreign language! They have got this as a chance to involve themselves on something they could understand and be understood.

So, I divided them into groups of 3-4 students and they could choose which festival they'd like to talk about. They have selected some different Brazilian cultural festivals - different from "Carnival".

Many, many different expressions they presented and using the kind of language they could understand. It made them more confident about their listening and speaking skills. The result was the positive feedback they've given and the interchange of knowledge. Some shy students have just done well!

The atmosphere of learning got much better. Now they feel themselves ready to work it out!

Well, that 's all for now.

      Best wishes. See you.
