      Dear Jenny

It's interesting what you say about technology. I've been teaching for many many years now, and I worry that I'm going to have start learning my trade all over again to be an online teacher! Do you really think though that in 5 years or so students will stay at home and learn online??

      All the best

      Chris

      Hi Chris

      thanks for your comment.

I don't think you need to worry! What I meant in the video interview was that technology is emerging as a toolbox to use in teaching. Even in 5 or 10 years time the main forum for learning I feel sure will still be the classroom, with a real live teacher, though there will be more in the way of technological innovation going on, with benefits for both teachers and students. Two areas that I think will develop fast are online courses and video conferencing, but in addition to, not instead of, traditional learning contexts. Perhaps I'll open up this question more in a blog later on this month in my role as guest contributor. But in the meantime, Chris, you don't need to learn your trade all over again because online learning is nowhere near taking over!

Does anybody reading this think teachers will have to retrain to teach online, and fast?

      thanks Chris

      Jenny

I see, though you do wonder how many more people will stay at home and learn online. As a teacher my worry is that it would be a big step to make, a totally different job if you like. You do worry about being left behind by technology sometimes!
