I find this topic very interesting and challenging. We are supposed to help students become users of the language. Sometimes because they have to study it as a requirement, they do not see any importance or use. Culture involves many aspects and elements that have to do with everyday situations. More than choosing one or another “culture”, teaching should focus on trying to link the language to its use. For instance, “Wh” questions are often called information questions. Going beyond the grammar or the meaning, you could give to the students a task:
· Find a foreigner (in your neighborhood, community, University, or the web),
· Ask him/ her five questions about his/her country,
· Jot down your answers
· Report them back in the next class
· In the class have a discussion about the different answers and if possible, try to find similarities and differences
