      Writing varieties

The process of thinking reflects in the form of writing, making it a significant and necessary part of learning. What writing opportunities do we offer for our students? Looking through different textbooks, it turns out that writing is often presented as writing essays, letters or projects. Sometimes it includes answering the questions or story writing. All these activities are usually long and used as homework.

Is it enough to motivate students to develop their writing skills? Can it be more short-oriented and effective at the same time? What are other writing strategies to use in the classroom? All these questions make me do the following activities with my students in the classroom:

      •  Use adding the text technique. A short text has missing parts and the students should write the missing parts of the story (individually or in groups).
      •  Create writing circles. Students are divided into groups. Every student has a sheet of paper with a particular question. The task is to answer the question (2 min.). Then they pass the papers around and every student answer each question.

The main principle I use, making writing more productive, is 1) the length of the task (not very long) and 2) interactive character.

The main idea if these examples is that they are integrated in the whole process of lesson and the following activities are based on them. Writing becomes a source of other activities in this context.

Irina you ignore the fact that most kids hate writing. It takes them too much time and they are afraid of spelling mistakes. Once you convince them that writing is important then they can implement your interesting ideas.
