Teaching through Cartoons- Part 1
Submitted by hayriye on 1 February, 2011 - 13:16
English language teachers in Turkey have inevitably changed their ways of teaching English mainly because of Constructivist approaches to teaching and learning. They tend to explore new language teaching methods and recent methodological innovations. Among the innovations there is the use of animations or animated cartoons. Cartoons, apart from being a young child’s free time friend, can become every young learner’s school time treasure. Authentic animated cartoons serve for young learners’ characteristics and needs, bringing the real language into the classroom context and providing authentic use of language. Ideas on using of cartoons in language classes and the potential role of using such an approach will be discussed here.

Your post reminded me last year's "My Magic Carpet" competition that we organized for young learners with the TRT Kids Channel: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42867685@N07/show/

I know that competition. Last year some of my students drew for the competition and sent their projects. Unfortunately they could not win. Thank you for sharing those links. I saw the projects of my students on the first link. I also watched the videos. They're really nice.
I remember that project but unfortunately I did not have any young students at that time because I as teaching at university but this year working with little ones, I am ooking forward to hearing from you of the new projects to be applied for young learners.

After working with teens, it must be difficult to teach very young learners. I've been working at ODTÜ for 4 years. I can help you via e-mail whenever you need.
