      Intercultural Competence

This year I have started teaching the subject which is called Intercultural Competence. This subjects helps students to aware of different cultures, non verbal communication, extralinguistic issues and culture shock. It is really interesting to know other cultural elements and compare with our culture. There have been hot discussions among students when they dealt with various cultural issues. At the end of the each lesson we did reflection and students shared their feelings and opinions about the lesson. It was always interesting for me to hear students' points of view. If we integrate culture with language learning we prepare our students to be interculturally competent generation. They know other cultures as well as theirs.

Guzal you did good job teaching that subject. Once again I want to go back to a quession on discussion. Which culture should be taught in TEIL? As English has become an international language every culture could be taught in classrooms together with English instruction.

They say it's more important to study all the cultures today rather than to focus on UK ans US history and culture... for the 'Global English' language is becoming more common than the BrE and AmE. Do you teach Global English?

I don't teach Global English, but I teach English as an international language, I think they are similar by content. I agree with you that the world is becoming a small village, focus should be on other culktures as well.
