      Finishing Up / Favourite Tools

My time as Guest Writer seems to have flown by, and this will probably be my last post, though I will be popping in from time to time to see if anything's going on here on my blog!

I thought to finish up that I'd share some of my favourite online tools for teaching. If you have favourites which aren't in my list, please feel free to share them with everyone here in the comments section.

      Working with Images

      Working with Words

      Working with Video

      Working with Audio

      • Podomatic
      • [ I don't have much for the audio category-  can you help? ]

      Miscellaneous

One of my favourite activities involves the 'Where Is Matt?' video from You Tube. The video itself is an extremely happy video, features a large amount of countries and famous places from around the world, and - more importantly - no dialogue to get in the way of comprehension. It has so many uses, from vocabulary such as countries, nationalities and languages, to describing experiences in the past (simple and perfect), to future plans... and on and on. See if you can come up with a class for some of your learners - you can find the video here. For more ideas for using video in class, see Jamie Keddie's TEFLClips website listed above.

If you have any tools you'd like to add - or ideas for using any of the ones I've listed - please comment.

I'd like to thank everyone at the British Council for the opportunity to contribute to this community site, and also everyone who's read and commented on my posts, and to wish you happy teaching with technology - if you have it and like using it.

      Gavin

Thank you for the informative guest blogs. I was especially struck by your post on PLNs and hope to see more ELT professionals use the Web for this purpose.

This list of excellent resources is a great parting gift! Regarding Audio tools, Podomatic is definitely the most user-friendly so far. Good choice.

Another resource to include is the invaluable audio recoding/editing software from Audacity, which is not only free but also very easy to use. The step-by-step video tutorial by Russell Stannard clearly explains using Audacity for newcomers.

      Thank you once again!

      Thanks!

I'd completely forgotten about the excellent free Audacity - a worthy addition.

Here is one more free online thesaurus. It was very helpful for me. I think it will be very actual for everyone who wants to learn english!

Jim, your thesaurus was really useful. Thanks!

I've found this synonyms dictionary last week. I didn't test it, but I think it will be also useful!
