Louise Cooper, Writer. Sadly missed.

The BritLit project has worked with a lot of stimulating writers over the years.  Most of them have become firm friends of the project team and with teachers from many countries with whom they have worked, shared ideas and found a common interest.  Louise Cooper was one such writer, and when she died suddenly last month for many who had met her in the course of the project it was like losing a friend.  Immediately a group of teachers who had worked with her earlier this year decided they wanted to record their memories of her visit to their schools.  You can see what they had to say here http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/try/britlit/our-memories-louise-cooper.  We also decided to post two of Louise's very short stories that have provoked so much enjoyable activity in classes and, with the kind permission of publishers OUP, that is what we have done.  You can find 'Teeth' here http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/sites/teacheng/files/Teeth_0.pdf and 'Foot and Mouth' here http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/sites/teacheng/files/foot_mouth.pdf

Dear  Mr Fitch,

The sad demise of Louise cooper has really hurt me. Though I have not known or seen her teach  before, I was able to read comments on her by teachers through the websites you have given. You have done a great service to her departed soul by giving access to all of us her two most popular stories. After reading the comments I have come to the impression that she was a great teacher, an outstanding writer, and a unique human being. Her untimely Death causes an irrevocable loss not only to the Britlit project but also to the entire English teaching fraternity across the globe. During these sad times I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of her bereaved family. May God rest her soul in peace!

Yours sincerely,

JVL NARASIMHARAO
