Although I'm not teaching young learners, I'm affected by the results. For the past ten years I've been teaching teenagers. And I'm often confused to see how little English they know when they become, let's say, 9 graders. In our primary schools, they start learning english mostly in year 1. The teachers use their creativity and English becomes fun. However, we start from pre-intermediate when they reach to 9 grade.
In my opinion, there are more than one reason for it.
1. Students think it's just fun
2. Teachers think the students have learned and they try to make a progress
3. English (or social sciences) always comes after maths or science. If a student needs help for maths it's a must. If it's English it's not...
Well, what can we do? We are all well aware of these things. For me the best solution is to adapt a system where we can revise, revise and revise ...
