      Freedom Writers Diary
Hello,I recently saw "The Freedom Writers" movie, which is based on the book "The Freedom Writers Diary" by Erin Gruwell. The movie raised questions, I hadn't dared to ask myself - what is our student's life out of school nowadays? Does war between classes, religions, gangs or races exist in our school and what measures can we take to prevent it?You can comment on these thoughts even if you haven’t read the book or seen the movie (although I fully recommend you do at least the one).

      Regards,

      Desi

      Hello Dlambina!

I have seen the film you commented on and I must say, I too really enjoyed it.

It is fascinating to imagine what goes on after school in the life of some students that's why I have them keep this sort of "diary" to record just what they do, it's very interesting because we teachers sometimes have an idea of a student's personality and life style and we can be surprised at some of the things we didn't realise about them! I'm speaking in a very positive way, for example, a lot of them are active with voluntary organisations etc. It's a great tool to then get them speaking in English on all sorts of subjects which is exactly what my job entails being a language assistant!

      Bye for now.
