These last few days I have frequently been visiting the website for translators www.ProZ.com and its offshoot www.proZ.com/KudoZ , participating for example in a virtual conference and in judging entries for a translating competition and joining in the search for a certain salient expression for a term in the other language.
As I am both a translator from German to English and a teacher of (mainly) English to Germans, I have been comparing ProZ and TeachingEnglish, or rather not the website itself but the subject matter and the users.
I wonder if anyone else is a registered user of both sites?
What do teachers and translators have in common? Here is a tentative list, please add!
A love of the language; a stickling for accuracy; a deep interest in and understanding of the workings of the language such as grammar; a feel for the appropriateness of an utterance; concern for other language interference; mother tongue competence; a determination to keep up with developments such as new vocabulary, etc.
Any comments from other teacher-translators?
