      According to the State Education Standard a student of a vocational school must know the minimum of grammar to be able to have a conversation within the topics under study and to translate a professionally oriented text. Yet the FEPO organization asseses the students' knowledge by means of Internet testing. What for to teach students to all aspects of speach if only grammar is checked? It should be mentioned here, that the students usually cannot say the simpliest phrase and they have 2 hours of English a week. Speaking is out of the question. All vain attempts to teach them to express their views, to ruminate on something or to have a discussion will remain vain but numerous grammar exercises can lay the foundations of a correct statement construction. In general, the students can only have a slight notion of how English should be spoken and the final goal of the teacher is to coach the students so that they would be able to click the right variant in the computer test.

      Test is the most suitable form of assessment in this case because it is considered by many to be neutral, disspassionate and objective. If a student and his form mistress are discontented with the mark the percentage may be shown to them and it is the lucky stars that are to blame here. If they want to have a better mark the student will have to do another variant.

      Testing is a form of assessment that is neither too difficult nor too easy.
