Editing the Text or the Task
Please leave any comment on your experiences on using authentic materials in your classrooms.  I am in the process of writing my thesis on this subject and would like to have your opinions.  Is it best to edit an authentic text to suit the level of your students?  Would you rather modify the task and leave the text as it is?  If modifying the task, could you give an example of what you do?

First of all, I think we need to agree on what we regard as "authentic material". I shall consider any linguistic material which has not been produced for the purposes of teaching anything. Secondly, the tasks is what makes the difference. You might eventually use the same material with two completely different groups of students with different levels of English. Finally, it is going to be very motivatig for students to feel they are tackling with material taken from the real world. That, in my opinion, will make them aware they are learning the real thing.

Regards, and all the best with your research,
