So, you’ve decided to put on a play. Or, you’ve decided to use drama in class in some other way. How do you assess and evaluate the students’ work? Well, if you’re like me, you use a rubric. Here are the critera I am going to use for my Performance Rubric. (I make sure that the students know and understand them from the very beginning of the process).
Content and Clarity (0-10p.)
* Student demonstrates an understanding of the character and situation. S/he adopts and maintains a character role and improvises when necessary.
Pronunciation & Vocal Dynamics (0-25p)
* Student pronounces words correctly, and uses appropriate tone and inflection.
* Student speaks audibly and enunciates clearly.
Style & Fluency (0-25p)
* Student demonstrates comfort with the audience and the speech flows naturally and confidently;
* There is no inappropriate laughing nor fillers (such as erm, hmm, ah, şey, işte);
Pragmatics & Strategy (0-25p)
* Student extrapolates appropriate mood and feeling, and demonstrates this through vocal texture, facial expressions and gestures.
Costumes and Props (0-10p)
* Student has procured/uses suitable costumes/props for the performance.
Off-stage behavior & decorum (0-5p)
* Student is ready and waits quietly off stage. There is no noise or delay during transitions/scene changes.
What do you think?

Dear CoffeeAddict,
Preparing a rubric and providing it for the students is a great idea. I've been doing something similar for the performance tasks and projects of the students.
I think you might also add something for the creativity.
Good Luck and enjoy:)
@Aisha: this is the performance rubric - for the evening performance when there's an audience so the students are naturally "motivated" to be on their best behavior... You should see the process rubric :-) hehe
@Merve: thank you for your suggestion! I think you're right! I should add something for creativity!
Thank you both for your comments!
