I really like reading blogs. I read a lot of them and I learn a lot from them. Some blogs are like personal diary entries, some have tons of really useful lesson plans and project/activity ideas, some are more like wikis with links to all sorts of wonderful web tools and materials, some are dedicated to a particular topic or software, some are politically motivated and controversial and some are simply funny and entertaining. I read blogs as much as I do books, magazines and newspapers. I love them as much too.
However, not all of the blogs you’ll find online are any good. Some are way too personal (too many “omg-I-didn’t-need-to-know-that” moments), some too much like simple shopping lists, some embarrassing (entries written by teachers of English but riddled with grammar and spelling mistakes!), some just slowly and carefully state the surprisingly obvious, and many - dare I say it – are simply mind-bogglingly boring.
Here are some really good blogs that will definitely inspire you:
-
- An A-Z of ELT by Scott Thornbury
- Authentic Teaching
- Doing Some Thinking
- EFL Classroom 2.0
- ELT World
- English Raven – Jason Renshaw's Blog
- Jeremy Harmer's Blog
- Kalinago English
- Larry Ferlazzo's Blog
- Nik's Learning Technology Blog
- Ozge Karaoglu's Blog
- Sean Banville's Blog
- Six Things – Lindsay Clandfield's Blog
- That's Life – Gavin Dudeney's Blog
- The Edublogger
I know this because they definitely inspire me! I also know that I’ll be adding some of your blogs to my list of favorites by the end of this blogging marathon. Many of the entries have already impressed and inspired me and I know from last year that the entries will just be getting better and better with every passing day.
Good luck to all of you, thank you for sharing and inspiring those of us who prefer reading blogs to writing them, and finally: may the best blogger win!

Some of those definitely inspired me to start blogging. I normally don't keep to a strict word limit, so it's nice to have this challenge to focus my mind.
Hello,
Thanks sharing your sources of inspiration and motivation. I am familiar with some of them but will check the others.I am with you about "learning from others". Blogathon has been extremely good in this respect :)
Hi, nice to read your posts, thanks ;)
Karin,
I think, blogging is a kind of acquisition, you can acquire good skills about how to write a blog by visiting the other's blogs and then create your own writings. Thanks for sharing the links.
I am already subscribed to some of them and they were the first ones who showed me that edublogs exist. Then, I had a chance to meet some of them in person and discussed the subjects that they are really stick to in their blogs. I am sure, they will be great inspiration for all Blogathon runners :)
Btw Adam I follow your blog too and Eva's, but since you're both involved here in the blogathon I didn't feel comfortable to "advertise" them :-) even though I enjoy them both a lot!
@Aslı, Özge & Leman - I'm glad to hear you agree with my selection. Pls. add some of your own favorites (and if possible say why you like them)! I'd love to check them out! I'm always on the lookout for new blogs & people to learn from!
