A few more days left … Simon Greenall past president IATEFL

I’ve been looking through all the amazing blogs and comments from you teachers in Turkey, Russia, Israel, Croatia and Armenia, and I just want to let you know how overwhelmed I am by the richness of your contributions.

When I started teaching, the world wide web hadn’t even been invented, and the main source of motivation and feedback came from teachers in our own staffroom. If someone had a good idea for an activity, they’d write a short description of it and post it on the noticeboard. If someone else tried it and liked it, they added a comment.

We didn’t have much contact with other teachers even within the same city, and there weren’t as many conferences then as there are today. But anyone who had a chance to go to one came back full of excitement and enthusiasm … and lots of new ideas to place on the noticeboard.

Today the noticeboard is electronic, and we’re in touch with teachers all over the world on a daily basis. I use Twitter a lot (@simongreenall) to find out what’s happening and who has got the latest good ideas, or to direct me to the latest blogs.

The other big change these days is that there are lots of conferences, and one of the biggest is IATEFL (http://www.iatefl.org/events/iatefl-annual-conference-and-exhibition). Using the latest technology, IATEFL Online takes the conference to teachers who are not able to attend in person. Teachers will be able to follow live conference coverage on the Glasgow Online website. So if you cannot attend the IATEFL conference in person, you can follow the “Live Channel”, online discussions, our roving reporters, Internet streams, sessions, interviews and discussion forums on Glasgow Online.

There are a few more days left … so please keep the blogs coming until the last minute.
And thank you for reminding me how enjoyable our work together as teachers of English can be!

Thank you for your support. We are all happy to share many things about teaching English. It is wonderful to see teachers all around the world to try to do their best and ready to share. This blogathan is a really good example for working in a big group. It becomes a kind of observing teaching journals as reflective teaching. I feel so lucky to share things with the teachers on the Blogathan.

Thanks for sharing your ideas.  Good luck to you all!

      Irina,

Your project sounds to be a great idea to bring into the classroom as teaching literature is another aspect of teaching language. Besides, this also provide you with opportunities to get you students exposed to culture. In your case it is Christmas and get your students to learn more about famous British writers

I am also planning to organised a cultural event with my students and it would be great to look at your resoures and materials used
