Teaching reading to problematic students - Part 2.
Submitted by bogolepovasv on 25 January, 2012 - 19:50
As I have found out, memory and kineasthetic-type games I listed in the previous entry work well with primary and problematic students.
As the boy is not able to read, I have to teach him letters and sounds. Here I'm going to use some Montessori ideas. My children helped me to make "sand" (in my case "salt") letters. The idea is that tracing those letters kids remember them in the "motoric" way, associate the shape and the sound of a letter. I made Power Point presentations for different word combinations and positions of vowels. Also, Mr Thorn's video lessons are good for this pupose.
Combined with everything listed above, we'll use reading drills and simple books from the starfall site, and games from LearnEnglishKids.
I'll keep you posted!

Hi, could you please explain me more about Montessori ideas in detail... Thanks a lot!
I think, this video is very informative in this respect:

My enterprise is going on quite well! The boy began to read, but his attention span is very short and he gets tired rather soon. So there are constant changes of activities.
Dear my friend, the link of the youtube is very clear and I see now...It is great... and I admire the children :) They are all very pretty :) and very creative,too...
