Two Events for Teacher Development in Sudan
I have participated in two important events during the last week of this month in Sudan. The first was the TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) training course which was sponsored by the British Council in Khartoum. The course duration was 3 three weeks, 4 hours per day. Two British experienced trainers came for this course, Jenny and Steve to whom I am very thankful for their efforts, knowledge and patience. A week after the end of the course, we sat for the Cambridge TKT test.
English language teachers in Sudan benefited from this course, besides the training for the test; they got involved in activities and discussions which could enrich their knowledge and experience (teacher development).
We have to thank the British Council in Khartoum, especially Mr. Ben Gray, the language advisor, and Omdurman Islamic University for providing the venue.
The second event that I involved in was TESOL Sudan
TEACHERS OF ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES
This new born organization held its first activities, ONE DAY SEMINAR,
Under the theme;
"Problems, Challenges and Trends in ESP, EFL &ELT Teaching in Sudan".
Several topics were presented by experienced Sudanese professors and foreign ELT specialists and two PhD students in the USA and UK. The event was attended by many ELT teachers and professionals in Sudan. It was a good opportunity for me to work TESOL SUDAN Board. I came to know people who are highly professional and very interested to serve our country Sudan.
We have to support these events in Sudan for they may encourage teacher development and training. These activities help in developing the teachers' knowledge and practice by exposing them to current trends and issues in area of English language teaching and learning .
Thank you
