Hello ELT Colleagues,
Two years ago, I had an experience with teaching literature. I taught "Introduction to Literature" and "Drama in English" courses. I didn't face any difficulty with material and teaching methodology with "Introduction to Literature". Regarding "Drama in English", I had to select a play to be taught as a text. I chose "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller. Because it is short and it is a chance to expose the students to some American culture. During the classes I and the students involved in read in the text act by act and scene by scene. I explained and discussed the play linguistically and literary. After finishing reading, I gave the students summary of acts and scenes, characters analysis and the theme with simple biography of the author.
Dear colleagues, I would like to know your suggestions of the methodology, activities …etc of teaching literature to foreign learners who are majoring in English language?
Please let me share your experiences and ideas.
Thank you,
Badri
