      Peace

" Peace at home, peace in the world"

Everybody knows this Atatürk's speech in Turkey.

And also there are most of them. "There isn't no greater happiness in the world than being a free man in ones own country." (the best one I liked)

On my class rooms' walls, you can see these kinds of speeches with capital letters. Not only Atatürk's but also the other important and famous person's voices.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present."
                                                                       Babatunde Olatunji

"There is no delight in owning anything unshared"

"A man’s home is his castle. "            etc...    Is it interesting for you? Please share your opinions

      Hello,

I think that these are very interesting and they can trigger lots of personalised discussion (e.g. do you agree? why?) and chances of personalisation with the topic. Also, some coursebooks make use of them to be used a s a lead in to the topic. Thanks for focusing on this topic. :)

I love the idea of posting famous quotations on the walls, thanks for sharing, I'll try it. I believe reading quotations makes our students stop and think or reflect "what's it all about? what's the life about?" They'll start thinking on existentialism topics in the end.

I start my lessons with the quotations, a good warmer to ignite good vibes for a lesson. If we are talking about homes, I would say "East or West, home is best".

Quotations can prove really useful and thought\speech-provoking if they are clear and appealing to students. That's why from time to time students can be asked to search for famous quotations or sayings in English concerning the topic we dwell upon.As a rule they choose the best and the most humorous or wise, present them to the audience and here our discussion starts.

Atatürk is my hero and my idol. Every classroom should boast one or more of his famous statements. "Peace at home Peace in the World" - how very very true that is.
