      choosing an appropriate name

Family names are often passed down from generation to generation. If your father's name is İSMET, for example, you may want to honor your dad by giving his name to your son

Choosing an appropriate name is one of the most important things you must do in preparation for your new arrival.

Studies have shown that the name you choose for your child can greatly impact his or her life.

"Osman"was my grandfather's name, and now it's my name...

"İsmet" was my father's name, and now it's my son's name.

Maybe my grandson's name will be the same mine...!

It is not general but "tradition" in my country.. (nowadays, new generation doesn't follow it anymore)

       What's your view?..

       here is a nice poem...

       Name

      by Anonymous

You got it from your father
It was all he had to give
So it's yours to use and cherish
For as long as you may live

If you lost the watch he gave you
      It can always be replaced;
But a black mark on your name
      Can never be erased

It was clean the day you took it
And a worthy name to bear
When he got it from his father
      There was no dishonor there

So make sure you guard it wisely
After all is said and done
You'll be glad the name is spotless
When you give it to your son

Name can tell about person a lot of information... I think when in the generation people give name of grandfather like in your case they pass the power with it.

      P.S. Wonderful poem, Babakartal!

      Wonderful poem!

It's absolutely true - if you lose your name, you lose your personality.

We have the same old tradition in Russia. My name - is my grandmother's name. My daughter's name is my mother's name

New generation don't confirm the tradition.. But, in my opinion it's admissible...
