Web Tool of the Day: Photo Captioner (@ BigHue Labs)

BigHue Labs (http://bighugelabs.com/ ) is a magical site because it has a battery of web applications that encourages creativity and fun. All you need to is to upload your digital photos and this virtual lab can turn them into a pop art poster, a calendar, a magazine cover, a slideshow or a mosaic.

One of the tools that I use quite frequently is Photo Captioner (http://bighugelabs.com/captioner.php )

By using this web tool you can add captions onto your digital photos. All you need to do is upload your photos (you may want to resize them so that processing does not take a lot of time) and decide what you will use, a though bubble or speech balloon from the drop-down menu. If you like you can also choose stamp for your photo if you like (to make it like a Roy Lichtenstein art work). Then hit “Create”

      Suggestions for Teaching

      • It can be used to practice writing. Once I asked the students to write a paragraph about technology using this tool. So, they took pictures and add their sentences on the photos and in the end they presented their work.

      • Also, you may use it to introduce & exemplify Grammar structures. For example, I asked the students to mime the statements that I gave them. One of them said; “When I entered the room they were arguing”. Can you visualize the photo that we created afterwards, with the caption and all?

Great suggestion, Aslı. I waste lots of time trying to do this without having the proper tool for the job, so this will be a real life saver.

I don't have time to explore in detail your web tool suggestions right now, but the responses of some of our other bloggers have convinced me that it would be worth making time for.

      Appreciation in advance,

      Yours, a digital convert.
