It may be elementary for Mr Sherlock Holmes but it is a Journey to the underworld for new teachers whose first language is not English.

My English teachers were natives of the UK. I was lucky.

What I perceive experience and try to solve about English Teaching in Pakistan is

• 'How to begin, 'where to start from?
• How to plan an English Lesson or a Presentation.

This means that more emphasis and attention is required on the Methodology and Planning for Teaching English Language or Literature.

'Madam please tell us how to start language? I looked at a young students extremely worried face.Standing in the cafeteria I was taken aback by this sudden query.'Er...er..what exactly do you wish to know?'I asked her.

Mam how to begin writing?  What dear? what do you wish to write? I was still not clear.

Mam , language , English language! I smiled and thought for a few moments.

Well tell me is it a letter, or an essay or a story or a poem' I listed all the common topics.

No mam, language' again came the reply.

Well, come to me tomorrow morning and we shall talk in detail.I turned and started walking towards the office worried at the students perplexity -

I was still thinking when I met another , 'Mam I want to discuss something.Our Mam has given us a topic 'language Games and we don't know how to plan and present'' can you help us please'

This was the third query in two days,The second one was on 'How to use songs for Teaching English'

'I must meet this English Teacher who is giving these topics for presentations' I thought

I as an experienced English language and Literature Teacher know the methods of planning and presentation but how to satisfactorily help these new learners was the question.Someone else is their English Teacher ?

Do I plan a session on Methods for the whole lot of B Ed students in the Hall? I was already planning one on Report Writing' and here come three other.

This meant that English Teaching Methodology needs to be revised.Innovation in Teaching English is vital .

Teaching English must come out of the Theoretical state and be applied practically.More Training for ELT Teachers and I strongly suggest the use of multimedia
