Dear teacher
Activity:
- This activity is for the first day of class. The letters should be addressed to the teacher. Have students date the letter whenever you imagine the course will end.
- Write the following prompt on the board:"Yesterday was the last day of our English course. Over the last__ months/weeks I learned..."
- Tell studeents to pretend that the class is over. what did they learn? What memorable moments do they remember? What did they like or dislike about the class, and why? Why do they deserve their certificate (if you're handing them out)?
- Give students a few minutes to think about these questions. Then tell them to write a letter to you in which they include answers to all of these questions. Give students as long they need to write the letters, and then collect them.
- Read through the letters, using the information provided by the students as a guide for planning your course. These letters contain valuable information including what students expect from your course, what they want they to learn, what their weaknesses are, and what their current English level is.
- On the last day of class, return each letter to its owner. Have students read over the letter they wrote, and discuss how their expectations changed and their skills improved. Excellent conversation/ disscussion topic for the last day of class!
