Catch Phrase...sort of
Prepare:
Write simple phrases on slips of paper, and put the slips into a plastic bag.
Activity:
- Divide the class into two teams and decide which team will go first.
- Give the plastic bag to the first person in group one. They are not allowed to look at the words in the bag.Team one has one minute to get through as many words as possible.
- Start the time. The first person draws a slip of paper, reads the phrase (SILENTLY!), and describes it to their teammates. They can use any word or phrase to help their teammates guess, but they can't use any word that is on the paper. For example, if the slip of paper reads "Kick the ball," the student can say "soccer/football," "it's a verb," "leg," etc., but CAN'T say "kick" or "ball."
- When the team guesses the first word, the bag is passed to the second team member and the game continues until time runs out. A point is awarded for each phrase that is guessed correctly before the time runs out. After one minute, the bag is passed to the other team. Each team takes turns playing untill there are no slips left in the bag or you run out of time.Whichever team has more points at the end wins!
