Third conditional lesson

This lesson aims to revise the form of the third conditional. Students have the chance to see and listen to how the form is used to express how events in the past could have been different. It also focuses on:

  • helping students to say third conditional sentences clearly and in the correct form.
  • letting students finish third conditional sentences to express their own opinions and answer third conditional questions about their own lives.

Level
- upper intermediate

The example sentences and tapescripts are about my life and my colleagues’ lives. You can use these, or adapt the materials to describe your own life and decisions. If you have the facilities, you can also interview and record your colleagues for the listening stage. If your students know the other teachers, the activity will be
more interesting for them.

It is possible to use this lesson without extra equipment; however, if you have access to an overhead projector, there are optional ways of using the lesson plan. I have explained where this is possible in the plan.
