Watch our exclusive interview with Vanessa Lee at the Teacher Educator Conference, Hyderabad 2014.

Vanessa's talk at the conference focused on mentoring in the context of the British Council's English Language Teacher Development Project (ELTDP) in East Malaysia, which aimed at enabling 6,000 rural primary school teachers to develop as reflective practitioners within a Professional Development System.

In this interview, Vanessa summarises how she and her team set up the project and talks about some of the challenges they faced. She discusses the extent to which the strategies employed in East Malaysia could be replicated in other contexts and explores how effective the mentoring process is at engaging teachers who have been teaching for a long time and are perceived to have no interest in development.
Vaness also offers advice to institutions wanting to implement a mentoring system.

Vanessa Lee is is project director for the British Council Pro-ELT programme. She has led large-scale projects and taught English.
