This report contributes to the international body of knowledge on teacher education and inclusive educational practices.

The University of South Africa (UNISA), the British Council and MIET AFRICA, together with the Department of Basic Education as associate partner, came together in response to a call by the European Union to ask: 'How can we together help build a teacher development programme for Inclusion?' This led to the development of the project 'Teaching for all: mainstreaming inclusive education in South Africa.

This report describes the research conducted by UNISA to inform the work of the project. These findings contributed to the development of the module for pre- and inservice teachers, to assist students to examine deep seated assumptions, ideologies and values that shape their understandings of inclusion and constructions of difference, and to develop strength-based practices that are reflexive and creative and value all learners.
