Investigating English for Academic Purposes provision in South Asian HE

This paper reports on a how English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is taught in universities in Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Although English is the main medium of instruction in higher education in these countries, little is known about the extent to which and how EAP is taught in universities. This study used questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups with students, English tutors, and subject lecturers, as well as observations of teaching and analysis of teaching-related documents to shed light on how universities in these countries prepare their students for studying in English medium.
