About this module

An introduction to trauma and its effects in the classroom is a three-hour self-study training module, which is divided into three one-hour units.

Understanding trauma and ways this manifests in classroom interactions can help teachers to be more empathetic and empowered. The aim of this module is to look at how trauma impacts students so teachers are equipped to shape the teaching and learning processes to be safer, more inclusive and protective.

  • By the end of unit 1, you'll be able to define trauma and understand its possible causes
  • By the end of unit 2, you'll be able to reflect on the effects on learning and behaviour in the classroom through examples of students and consider the role of the teacher in endings and transitions
  • By the end of unit 3, you'll learn some interesting ways to create physical and emotional safety through basic strategies

Start date: 1 June 2020

Duration: Available for 4 weeks
