Conference proceedings - Language and the Sustainable Development Goals

These selected proceedings come from the 2017 Language and Development conference.

The collection of papers are from the 12th Language and Development Conference (LDC) which took place in Dakar, Senegal in 2017. The conference attracted over 250 delegates, 125 of whom participated as speakers, and this was the first LDC to be held in both English and French. Find out more about the conference.

The proceedings include the following four sections:

  • Part 1: Multilingualism for quality, equitable and inclusive education – perspectives on policy (SDG 4: quality education)
  • Part 2: Multilingualism for quality, equitable and inclusive education – perspectives on practice (SDG 4: quality education)
  • Part 3: Languages, skills and sustainable economic growth (SDG 8: decent work and economic growth)
  • Part 4: Communication, peace and justice (SDG 16: peace, justice and strong institutions)

The proceedings are designed in an interactive and clickable format that will direct you to resource pages and websites for an easy online-reading experience.

We hope that the proceedings will provide readers with insights into issues of multilingual, equitable and inclusive education, sustainability and justice and that it will steer conversations and continue to raise awareness of these issues in the future.
