A remote House in the West of Scotland (higher level)

Remote House in the West of Scotland is a set of teaching resources designed to encourage students to use their higher critical thinking skills to think and speak about visual images. In this lesson, students use listening, writing and vocabulary skills to construct a text around an image that they have chosen.

The materials accompanying this pack are designed to be used with higher level (B2+) students.

Each pack in this series includes an audio recording of the photographer talking about their photo, together with a complete downloadable lesson plan on how to exploit the image and the audio. There are downloadable student worksheets and a full-size copy of the image.

In this lesson, students are asked to do the following:

  • To use a 'word cloud' as a way of accessing a listening text.
  • To predict words and phrases they will hear in a listening text, based on language and visual clues.
  • To listen for detail and reconstruct a text (Listening skills).
  • To choose an image and write a story about a holiday based on it. (Writing skills)

The word map is a great idea and really got the pre-task of the listening going and helped them during the listening.
